Vacation: 2 weeks travel to see Inland China. Lanzhou was the starting point, to meet up with Kristel and GT. Lanzhou it self was just starting point as it is easy to reach by air, no big plans there. But finally it was relatively interesting and kind of wild city with different religions, polluting industry.
The places we wanted to see during the trip: Shanghai-Lanzhou-Langmusi-Xiahe-Qinghai Lake-Zhangye-Shanghai and then Beijing.
Later on Zhangye was replaced with Xian, the ancient capital of China. Since 1976 it got World famous when a local farmer discovered the Army of Terracotta , 6000 full size pottery warriors.
Even though Lanzhou is just in the middle of China , it is still 2000km from Shanghai.
Mountains around Lanzhou, land seems to be very dry and all the flat parts are used for farming.
Muslim district in Lanzhou
Reading newspapers, Lanzhou
Muslim district, waiting for somebody who needs something to be transported somewhere.
This was on the way to the bus station the day before actually taking the bus. It was not possible to buy the tickets beforehand as foreigners need 2 copies of passport for going to Tibetian areas, I hand only copies of my passport. The next morning we were 6.30 in bus station with 2 copies of each passport, then came out that also 2 copies of the visa page are needed. Of course then came the race with taxi around Lanzhou to find a hotel with copy machine, bus station did not offer option of making copies. After a while we were in bus, so that by the sunset time we could already enjoy Langmusi.
How many lines are good?! Lanzhou, in brand new living district.
Night market, Lanzhou. Night markets are not the very best places for people with high requirements for hygiene (Hygiene in European understanding!). But apart from that this is a perfect place to taste local cuisine. During the meal it is possible to stare at the sheep heads you are eating.
Road checks, each time bus driver had to give some papers. Sometimes when Police noticed foreigners in bus, then they had to get out and fill also some papers.
